Pot Luck 2015 - 1-2 Freeway

The start of the Pot Luck Challenge 2015 takes place at Freeway.  This unique track is modeled after a straight and wide freeway system that's far more dangerous than your typical beltway (but only just).

Race 1:
A sizable crowd and start positions were less than stellar for the series opener.  I was somewhere in the twenties, the best starting human.  I ran over the flagman in rage.

The rest of the humans started in the rear.  Some trying, others going for a laid back approach.

I quickly worked the launch from start and it wasn't but a lap before I grabbed first.  I stayed there for most of the race unmolested, but concerned for lappers as the mandatory fuel stops took place.  2 clean pit stays and I was on top of things.

Mark was not far behind me, however.  A back-pack start didn't keep him down and he quickly launched up the order in his Malboro Machine.

While most passes were swift, others were down right dirty.

Remember this incident with G Ray.  It becomes important later.

But not all were his and he had his fair share of near misses.

This one with Unser was not so much a miss as a slythery knock up the inside.

Mark recovered but had enough damage to have to fight the field for position.  That's when these two took him out in turn 2.

He was then run over in traditional fashion, bringing his race to a close after such a magnificent drive up the field.

Dan Wheldon wasn't done finishing off humans as his wasted husk of a car sat center of track and Darrel had nowhere to go.

Scot had similar misfortunes from Mark's droppings as he spun out avoiding cars.

He was then destroyed by Mika Hakkinen.

Remember Greg Ray's wreck from Mark?  Well he was sitting right in the racing line when Sandy rounded the corner and plowed into him.  Could not see him past the crest of the hill and The Bear was done.

Zack fared slightly better but still got slightly knocked about during the race.  His battered Ferrari was able to limp home in 30th.

Start positioning proved to be everything and I took home the win.  Oh good, they replaced the flag marshal I killed.  Speaking of, here's Race 2.

Race 2:
Another terrible qualifying.  Not sure how I got a pole on the test one we did and can't even break the twenties here.

Several other humans were again at the back of the field.

But not Riggleman!  He stole the pole with a huge margin.  Somehow he has massive speed here.  I'm assuming he's using Michael Waltrip's engineers.

While I got by most of the field, Alonso cut right in front of me and took us both out.

I was stuck on the wall but not out.  Zack was driving high and his roll bar caught my undercarriage, taking him out.  Surprisingly, I was down but not out.

Back in the field, a wreck was taking place, mid pack.

Mad Max, Bear and Hamilton all ended up spinning trying to avoid the pile up.  Darrel ended up rolling hard and going out.

The Bear ended up breaking loose and hitting the outside wall further down the track, killing the car.  Must have had flat spots because the camera feed glitched there like a spy movie.

Scot did almost the exact same thing, ending his night.

First pit stop for Mark and things went terrible.  He rode the embankment to pit road and it loosened him up and he tapped the wall, chasing the car down until it slide sideways to a near stop.  This cost him time and he would fall back to 7th after pitting.

Before that happened, I had finally completed my first stop....which was to fix my broken car since it takes almost 5 minutes to get towed back.  Immediately upon exiting the pits, I get plinked by a Ferrari and my car is not nearly dead.  Another tow, oh good.

While Mark was working to reclaim his top standing, he got taken out!

Then he performed the infamous pit glitch to reset his car and he wreaked havoc on the AI.

While this was amusing and all, it's not exactly sporting.

As the sole surviving human still driving around (if you don't count Mark's attempt to pair down the competition) I was doing fine at 140 mph.  Then my front left caught what appeared to be the grass off of 4.  Now, in the replay, it seems very cut and dry, but I stand on my claim that my tire did not cross the yellow line until the back end bucked as though I had hit the grass.

Regardless, the damage was done and my pitiful position was as high as I was going to hope to achieve.

Zack has now selected our next track:  6 Feet Under - A DEMOLITION COURSE!  Remember Twisted Metal rules apply.  Scot, is the next picker.
