'87 Winston Cup 2016 Series - 27 Chicagoland

Welcome back, Winston Cup fans!  I've managed to backup nearly all of my stuff after sending my iBuypower laptop off to be fixed.  Hopefully I get it back soon so life can go on.  For now, it's on to the old school desktop.  Fortunately, this sim is not terribly performance intensive.  At least as far as machines go...

Things started off fairly swell with Zack on the pole and me close behind.  I eventually overtook as he has some minor issues with keeping speed around the corners.  Usually because a wall was involved.

We managed eight good laps before Alan Kulwicki took out Mr. Lake Speed.

The 83 came back up the track and more were involved.  Sandy barely had more than a scrape on his bumper as he woahed up.

Darrel had an impressive run through the mess as he shot a diagonal gap without touching another car.  However, both humans ended up passing cars that were slowing and wrecking AFTER the line which led to some weird pitting as they slowed way down to let them by.  Terrible place for a wreck.

Zack's troubles continued as he got caught on the wall going into one and he fell back several spots.

Due to some wanking pitting, Darrel had stayed out and had to come in early.  He slowed down in front of JD McDuffy who had no remorse for his plight, spinning Darrel through the infield.

The yellow was out and Darrel was going to take advantage of his position by pitting...except he missed his stall.

The next time around, he decided to pass the field instead of go in.

At this point his tank was emptier than a Greenland beach in winter.  He ran out a few stalls from his own and tried to coast in.  Unfortunately for him, he stopped just shy of being all the way in his stall.  But because he was technically in it, he couldn't call a tow.  Instead of disconnecting the internet cable and getting a disconnect (which I could have helped resolve), he rage-quit for next week.

During regular stops, Dale Earnhardt drove into my car not once but TWICE causing damage.  He'll be dead everytime I see him now.

After repairing that damage, I was a few spots back and made crazy passes up the order...

Cutting dangerously across traffic...

And scaring pore Mike Potter to run into Christman.

He didn't last through that experience and ran up into Wallace.

This collected several more and nearly Zack as well.

Oh wait, no it got him too as Buddy Baker came down the track.  He was then tapped repeatedly by Ken Schradder.  He's an ass.

But that wasn't the last wreck I was involved with.  Coming through the field again, Jimmy Means made it 4-wide in the turn, pushing Cale Yarborough (one of them) down into me.  I didn't care much for that.

Being towards the back, Zack and I came in for repairs and more fuel with one to go.

Up the order and back under green, Sandy was running lines he shouldn't have and got caught in a tight 3-wide situation.

This wouldn't end well.

Zack was also caught in this mess and got more damaged but not yet dead.  More than I can say for the rest of the guys in this shot.

Coming to the line, Davey Allison felt the need to hip check me down the track.  He and Earnhardt Sr will both be smears on my grill come next race.

At this point, we could maybe make it the rest of the way on fuel.  With one to go before green, Zack and I tucked in, looking to make a play for fuel strategy.

But I ruined it only a few laps in under green by sending Terry Labonte into Arrington.  In my defense, I was simply trying to nudge him to the left so I could take the highline into the turn.  It may have been too much.

With everyone else topped off, we started back into it while Zack and I stayed out.

Zack's damage saw him quickly descend the field and Bobby Allison finally took him out.

Before the end of the race, there was another spin with Allison.  Zack had a clean line through the outside and was just taking it easy.

Elliot was coming through too fast and went the only place he could to avoid the 22...right into Zack, spinning him around and causing more damage.

Zack would find Bill later and let him know how he felt about this style of driving.

I took the win and turned it right into the wall, almost stopping dead at the line.

Zack was down the order but still in the top twenty.  He could have done better if not for my goof.

He let me know by slamming the snot out of me after the race.  As did several others from the field.

We now go on to the second race in the Chase: New Hampshire.

'87 Winston Cup 2016 Series - 26 Richmond

IT'S OVER 9000!  Views, that is.  Thank you again to our Russian friends for the bump in popularity.  This also marks the first race in the Chase format that we aren't doing.  So, yay for us?

What we thought was going to be a slam dunk for qualifying ended up scattering us to the wind.  Which is what I tried to do to Jimmy Means.  That asshole.

Things were a little wild in the beginning all over the track.  Sandy was running three wide with JD and Benny.

They paid dearly.

And right behind that mishap, Darrel was getting run over by Michael Waltrip.

Darrel and Zack also paid for it.  But neither actually ended up with any damage.

All AI pitted so the Smith duo took the green.

Shortly after, Scot turned it in one of the oil slicks.

He really screwed up the back end.

Then swung way up the track while trying to turn around.

He then threw it in reverse but it was too late and I was already upon him.

I had tried to tuck way down but the momentum ripped me right across his car and over I went.  Dead.

And there was plenty of crashing back behind.

Sandy had made it out of there and even Scot recovered but the track was a mess.  8-wide down the back stretch.

On the restart, Sandy was leading when he lost it in the oil slick.

Jimmy Means was there to catch him.

And was LAUNCHED into the outside wall.

Yet he raced on, nearly unaffected while The Bear was done for.

Another restart and humans were sprinkled about the field.

Geoff Bodine gave Hillin Jr a dump.

He came back up the track right into Sterling Marlin.

Another lap or so, Darrel was getting into trouble with Bodine and Chad was shooting the gap on the inside.

That spun Bodine right in front of Darrel.

And it was a drag race to the line.

On the next go around, Darrel got his feet knocked out from under him by a back marker, Combs.

Chad was collecting himself on the outside wall while Darrel was fighting to keep from becoming part of someone's hood ornament.

They had worked it out but only just and Chad was getting passed around.

They got into the turn and it got sideways for Dale Jarrett.  Chad thought he was safe up high and was just trying to get back up to speed.

He got run into a few more times from the flailing debris that was Bodine & co.

Finally, he could get going again.  But look out for that Bierscwhale running sidelong into JD McDuffy.

The 77 shot up the track and right into Chad's engine compartment.

He was launched square into the outside wall.

And the car was ruined.  Stupid Jimmy Means.  Wasn't even involved but I hate him.

Half the humans gone and they still weren't halfway yet.

Dave Marcus shoved Zack out of the way as he was getting used to the damage on his car.

Scot sort of did the same thing on the next lap.

Oops.

Several laps of green and Zack lost it on the oil.

Coming to the yellow, Alan Kulwicki took Zack to the wall.

He returned the kindness in kind.

Finally, over half way and we can drive.  All the humans together at the back.  What a surprise.

Up ahead, idiots were brewing trouble.

These back markers collected into the wall and there was a mess.

Coming to it, Darrel was the only human not to take the low road and got jacked up by Lake Speed who was getting chucked out by Dave Marcus.

While not good, this did not end his night, although Zack suddenly had more wheels and arms spinning in his cockpit than he knew what to do with.

Fortunately, he reacted with tact and decisive discipline and shot through the middle of it without damage.

Which Darrel rewarded by clambering out in front of him and shoving the Red Bull into the wall.  What are friends for?

On a restart and the humans were in as bad a shape as ever.

There were many laps of green racing before Darrel was caught by the field.

 He was an obstacle course.

And eventually just took himself into the inside wall area, bringing out the final caution before the end of the race.

Zack and Scot had people they could pass and were on the lead lap.  8 to go and it's on.

Scot was defending and attacking.

Zack was chasing down Christman and McDuffy with eyes on a potential top 5.

2.5 laps to go as they headed through turns three and 4.

And Scot found a few drops of oil still, right in front of all those cars he just passed.

Zack had made it to 8th but thought he was under caution and slowed up, letting the 77 swing by.  Still a top 10.  But Bierschwale will not leave Chicagoland alive.

Speaking of, Chicagoland is next.
