Twisted Metal 2017 - Indy Wave R34-36

Ah, Indianapolis Wave.  Vomit inducing from both the track material and the performances.  Although, not for everyone.  This would also mark our 4th Wild Card event and pitted Zack and Sandy together for the team with the most survivors.

Race 1:

Zack and Sandy were the only humans at the front and would lead the charge.

I would lead off with the first accident almost immediately after the green waved.

Fortunately, there were many large gatherings around the track on that first lap.

Scot's race was eventful for a bit.  For the third or fourth race this series, Scot managed to kill his engine while being invincible.  Simply amazing.  Just not the hat trick you want.

Darrel's race was OK.  He found himself in several incidents that kept him from climbing as much as he wanted but he still managed a 28th.  Point(s), anyhow.

Zack and Sandy were racing for position and points, knowing that the first race was unlikely to do much in the way of affecting this particular Wild Card requirement.  Sandy did fade a bit as Zack had a slightly better time cutting through traffic.

Despite some large moments, Sandy very much was doing his part in staying out of complete furballs of cars.

Still, Zack had so much of a lead at one point that he could even afford to wreck and still hold the 1st position.

Even on multiple occasions.  While he did lose some spots about mid race, he quickly made them back, leaving Sandy with a 5th, me getting a tow...

...and taking the win.  As predicted, no one had an advantage in Race 1 for the Wild Card.

Race 2:

Race 2, I joined Sandy and Zack at the front.  Moderate damage and 20 laps instead of 25.

And again, immediately caused an accident.  However, this really only affected me and my Eagles.

But there was still plenty of wrecking if you can make it out in the Pink Floyd.

As with Race 1, these two kept the top two positions locked up with Zack pacing a little faster than Sandy each lap and creating a cushion.

Scot had some issues with his framerate, wheel and dropping out.  Then when he came back in, he was basically dead.  Very unusual.

Darrel's race wasn't too much better as he was in several run ins and spins.

I continued on with Plan B to wreck others.  But it didn't always work in my favor, especially with a broken car.

Which after being broken more and slammed into by Green Bay...

I caused something of a traffic jam in front of Zack.  At least it's colorful.

And immediately wrecked again.

OK, I feel like I might be focusing on my race a little more than usual but I survived an impressive amount of damage.

Although, this one I did require repairs to keep going.

Zack was leading the way with a comfortable half-track lead, watching Darrel struggle with friction and a fence (which he needed a tow from).

He was still taking great care to cut through the field and clearly his practice with the Super Speedway series has helped him to avoid some of the nastier part of racing.

But Sandy wasn't slouching either, still holding 2nd and ready to pounce if Zack had a large moment.  Here, I nearly slammed into him after returning to racing.

With two to go, Zack went to pass me again which he'd done fairly well up to this point.  But my positioning was awkward for his line and he gave me a nudge.

Slightly askew and not sure who hit me or where they went, I ducked to the inside...and that's precisely where Zack was.

He spun and bounced off the wall but wasn't hurt too bad.

He was within inches of his life ending by blunt force Badger...

...but he got it going again and managed to keep Sandy at bay with a still sizable lead for the win.  Sandy got a podium and even Darrel managed to salvage a 22nd.  However, Sandy lost one less teammate than Zack, putting him in the lead entering the final round of the night.

Race 3: 

15 Laps this time with all the damage.  This looks familiar.

As does this.

My antics proved to be more effective this time.

Very quickly, all of Sandy's teammates were dead.  Things were not looking good for the AFC North.

But there were several drivers on pit road, including at least half of Zack's team.  Things were definitely off to an intriguing start.

But these two didn't have much time to think about where their crew was running because Sandy was pouring on the heat and not letting Zack get the pillow soft lead he was accustomed to in the first races.

I was using my battered car as a battering ram.

And also getting battered more.  Aggies are #1 on the list.

Now, despite the shenanigans I was causing, this happened mostly behind me. 

Which lead to this.

And regardless of being immediately dead, brought on this.

Which Darrel only just managed to sneak by.

Zack eventually was coming around and now had a very little bit of road to deal with and pulled to the right.

But he pulled too much.

Amazingly, he went wall riding on his side, kept it going without wrecking and dying or even getting run over by Sandy.  BUT!  In a preventive measure to keep from getting stuck on the wall around a critical dip in the wall, he killed his engine.  At this point, Zack and Sandy were tied for the race but Sandy was leading with one from race two.  If he dies, they'd potentially tie.

While slowing up dramatically, Sandy got into him and the two were tossed like bags of cat litter.

I just happened to notice this happening in the background at the same time and it pleased me.

Sandy was wounded but definitely still competitive when he lost his back end coming through turn four.  Could this be the end?  Come so far and tie in the Wild Card?

Upon hitting the wall, he spent a few more laps running around and then had to come in to make sure he would actually finish the race.

It was a hard fight but Darrel won!  10th place!

Sandy finished down the order but in the top 10 and alive.  He also took the Wild Card for a healthy 12 points to his cause, robbing Zack of his 12.  The last three tracks should be fun.  There's still a chance these two will be selected for the final Wild Card.

We move on to Dover Jump.  This one is quite fun.
