Race 1:
Gurton qualified first in his honorary ride (of course) and it was a cracking start, after we had a mulligan.
Webster had trouble within the first few laps and went off.
He struggled a bit with the high torque and low speed corners until he got called out for dangerous driving while trying to find the track. A spotty connection would have kept it difficult to drive for him anyway and he dropped Race 1.
I was doing OK watching Jamie slip into the distance until I overdrove turn 7
But that was about the most excitement in the first race as I recovered for 2nd and Sandy coasted by for a late field finish.
Jamie had no issues and finished about thirty seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Race 2:
After Gurton Buster disappeared and I lost my wheel, we finally got the second race going. However, the 008 decided it didn't want to be on when the green flag fell and Buster had some serious trouble on his hands.
Assuming Gurton had a jump on me, I stayed more conservative and ended up running parallel with Whincup for half of the first lap.
Gurton was trying to take it easy in the opening laps and conserve his car when he got a slight touch from Lowndes that made for a loosey-goosey brake into seven.
That sent him sailing into one of the Pepsi Max rides.
Everyone made it out mostly unscathed.
Meanwhile, back at the start, Webster got caught on the back bumper of Pye which got him all turned around for an awful start.
His woes would continue on as he kept struggling with roughed up tires and damage.
For the second time in a row, I found myself in the lead looking for good racing with the 008 when my car sloughed into the wall off of 12.
Damage and Whincup caused even further problems.
And it kept going downhill from there.
Eventually Zack lost his engine after too many off road events.
The last lap, I had a conversation with Gissy about an earlier altercation and salvaged a 4th.
Gurton swept with little more than negotiating traffic.
