We make our way from the non-regulation Mallala to the deceptively simple Queensland in the Northern Territory. After barely getting some track issues worked out beforehand, we went to racing.
Race 1:
After a mulligan, we got it going officially. Gurton Buster was suspicious of foul play on the start but it worked out to be a ripper and we both went to war for the top spot.
Heading towards 3, Zack had a dive into the back of Percat.
That sent him and a Kelly into the sand.
As they rounded out in towards the inner-loop, Darrel was fighting with Moffett.
He got a knock which sent him into the grass and upon rejoining, got tagged by Reynolds.
Right in front of them, Zack Webster ran too aggressively into 4.
Sandy had been mostly cautious and kept to himself but ultimately had an off as well.
Webster had a series of rounders after cooking his tires making for a frustrating race.
After a series of aggressive laps, I eventually looped it off of turn five and Jamie took the lead.
With a dump truck for a car and threadbare rubber, I eventually went around again and lost positions.
While trying to make up some spots, Zack witnessed Darrel and Percat having a get-together at 1 and the Webster tried to shoot the gap.
But hesitation and uncertainty on where Hamilton would end up got him a tap and he was caught in the mayhem.
At about halfway, anticipating tires, I spun yet again and was hit by Reynolds.
The damage was minimal and I was swept out into the exit of turn 5. But hang on, why is part of the track slicing through my car...
WHAM! My car was caught in Stephen King's Dome and received absolute damage from the track. Even my roof was caved in. Thank you, track designers, for making a catastrophic Predator Pothole.
Gurton Buster had a late spin allowing the field to keep from being completely lapped. Otherwise, he came home with another care-free finish.
Race 2:
A bad qualy for me left GB on the front row to make another smoke screen as we tore away from the field.
Webster had moved into 3rd by the middle of lap one when he went long into the left hander.
It was a painful reapproach to the racing surface as he watched his quick gains go down the tubes. To his credit, he kept calm and went back to work. At least this time he wouldn't lose 3rd gear.
Doing his best for a Race 1 repeat, Darrel got together with David Wall approaching turn 1.
They both went wide and struggled back to the pavement.
Set and determined, Zack Webster began climbing the ladder to the top and would have some of the best racing out of everyone in the whole event.
Not to be outdone, Sandy Smith started pressing the field for position and got a little to friendly with James Courtney.
It would seem that my own issues of understeer would haunt me in the second round as I lost Buster in the distance and gave the wall a high five. At this point, I just got new tires and moved on.
Hamilton continued to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Red Bull Racing probably had more hits on the Dicks car than any other.
After several frustrations and more spins than a turn table, a rage quit would end the night early.
Zack, however, was continuing to make moves and was running out of cars to pass as quickly as he was laps to pass them.
In a bold and talented overtake, Webster eeked out ahead of Whincup to take a podium, his third of the points season.
I managed to barely keep my car out of wormholes and augured in a second, finishing all 23 laps.
And for the 11th time and tenth podium, Buster rides home to victory at cruising speed.
We once again diverge from the regular set of tracks to Oran Park. As we do not have Sydney Motorsports Park, we will revisit this previous mainstay of the series. A very interesting track with that even includes a bridge!
