Pick10 - 7 & 8 Myrtle Beach Night

A fun filled night of racing.  Practice was entertaining and the track allowed for a lot of different lines and styles.  Very competitive.  Sandy had off tonight as he sips Gin somewhere in a far-off land.  Rob was also absent.

Race 1:
Qualifying put all humans at the front.  Darrel had the pole with Chad second, me third and Scot fourth.  First start, Chad ended up on his roof just before making a lap.  Second time around, Darrel was running a little loose and allowed Chad and Scot on by.  I was looking to keep pace but was not able to slow up enough going into one and crammed into Darrel's left rear, sending him into the fence.  Mild damage, but his race would be rough for the rest of the night, although he would make it back into the top twenty.  Scot would go on to have issues of his own and got tangled up with some AI, eventually bringing about his demise as the whole field held him down and took gut shots at him.  A bad clutch would end his night on the restart...not so much as a fireball.  Chad and I would run the front of the pack and spend the last 10 laps drag racing, Chad low and me high.  We left plenty of room and neither one could quite seal the deal.  On the last lap, we had nearly caught lap traffic.  Chad was clearly hoping to keep the inside pegged and possibly force a pick.  But coming down the back stretch, an internet gremlin caused a small hiccup and Chad would be disconnected for a second and thrown off when entering turn 3.  Going too fast, he went up the track and sandwiched me into the wall.  Fortunately, we both stayed pointing (relatively) the right direction and I managed to just out pace him by a nose.

Race 2:
Similar formation to Race 1: Scot, Chad, Darrel, me with Scot turning an impressive 20.020.  We were off and OK for the most part.  Scot and I ran 1 and 2 for the first several laps while Darrel and Chad stayed 3rd and 4th.  After a while, Darrel got into trouble and would spend most of his race fighting through traffic from the back.  Prior to a last lap spin, he would make it back into the twenties.  Tough break.  Scot led for quite a while but would start to succumb to tire wear (and a flat spot).  By the last lap, a blown tire would cause him to drop back to 10th.  Not bad considering his right front was a hot, melty, goo-pile.  So it would be back to Chad and me at the front.  This time, I was a small amount ahead so there was no drag racing, but we were both right on the edge, the slightest mistake spelling disaster.  Chad would be frustrated again at having come so close but having to settle for second.

Because of how good this track was, we will be replacing the next Golden Sands race with Myrtle Beach during the day.  We now move to bigger and better things: Zen Joltis.  This 4-mile-monstrosity will be a hoot.  I will be sending an email with the track file just in case as well as an updated .ini file.  I changed the pace and pit road speed to 150mph.  And of further news, the blog has seen more than 2000 page views.  Thanks to all those across the world who thought these posts were worth looking at for some reason...
