Saturday Night Stock Car Championship 2013 - 7-8 Memphis Night

A very light night in terms of players.  Sandy was gone attending to company from out of town, Scot was at another concert, Darrel was out getting lasers shot in his eye, and Odie was somewhere running around the mountain screaming something about pineapples and razor blades...or something.  So Chad and I took on the AI at Memphis Night.

Race 1: Qualifying was very competitive.  I ran my best times ever and only got 10th.  Chad was in a similar situation back in the deep 20s.  This after running one and two in practice with 100ths separating our times and gapping the field by over a second.  Race started cleanly and we were fine for 4 or 5 laps.  Caution out when Chad cut a corner early, bounced off the wall into traffic, and rolled on his top.  Not only should he not of bounced that hard (some tunneling took place) but the yellow flag didn't come out until almost a lap latter.  Like the computer thought that was perfectly normal.  I  credited Chad a lucky dog and an extra lap as the yellow flag was laughably late (I did laugh actually).  Unfortunately it wouldn't be enough help his position too much but he at least got back to about where he started.  I lead for most of the race but had some issues on pit road after a dingus cut me off and tractor beamed to his stall, holding me up.  I waited and started going only to be mashed sideways from a backmarking, klutz.  No real harm done and I restarted 2nd.  Got back out front and took the win.

Race 2: The first race ran longer than anticipated so I kept the laps at 40, a decent amount.  Chad and I ran aggressive qualys but I only improved to 7th and Chad to 20th.  A mulligan on the start, second one went much better.  We actually had several green flag laps.  I started catching the back of the field and eased up to conserve fuel.  I got an up close view of Chad manhandling a guy through a corner, which kept him on the lead lap.  But misfortune smiled on Chad again.  The NR2K3 gods felt he cheated the game and killed the battery of his XBOX steering wheel, sending him in a B-line for the only gap in the outside wall of the track.  He bounced off and flung to the inside wall, smoking and dead.  Really too bad as he was starting to make a come back and actually liked this track a bit, even had a good set of times.  I was distracted with the audacity of the situation that I missed pit road for my one-time pit stop and just came in on the second lap of caution.  This put me back in 20th.  And there were plenty of lap cars to make things interesting.  With twenty to go, I worked up through the field, getting caught on more than one backmarker, and bringing out a couple yellows.  For the last ten laps, it was a sprint to the front and I made it with a few to go.

Next week will be Golden San...er I mean Myrtle Beach Night; an excellent half mile track that we all agreed was a thrill to drive on.  Hopefully the whole gang can commit and we'll have some exciting racing before the holidays.  Good Luck!
