Pot Luck 2015 - 7-8 Watkins Glen

Darrel has broken the streak of demolition tracks by going to the sensible Watkins Glen.  No mandatory stops and both a standing and rolling start.  21 laps on the board.

Race 1:

Darrel and I started at the top of the grid with our comrades towards the back.

The start was anything but calm for anyone.  By lap two, Bear locked them up into one.

And clobbered the back of Zack's ride, swinging them both around.  Both kept going though.

Zack would struggle to find pace or even a stable line and ended up spinning several times.

Bear came in early for fresh tires after fun his first set flat.

A few laps in, I had been keeping steady pace between Darrel and the next cars back to try and keep something for the end when I caught the back wheel on the inside curb.

I spun and rejoined several spots down.

It wasn't over as Jim Clark felt it necessary to clock me on his way into the carousel.

Zack continued to struggle with his setup and opponents and parked it after this frustrating wreck on the front stretch.

Scot had been running a fairly steady, if not terribly fast, race when he started over turning into the bus stop and slid out into the outside wall.

That incident wasn't too bad but Graham Hill made sure his race was over after running him off the track just before turn 9.

A hard hit and done for sure.

Darrel lead a fairly straight forward race and was coming up on tough traffic, final lap.

The dust up in front of him kept him from seeing where he was and he turned in way too early.  That dug in his tires and he corkscrewed.

Miraculously, he kept driving somehow and took the win.

Race 2:

After several qualifying attempts from an unusual technical issue, another all human front row for the standing start and I laid a long streak on the start.

Darrel was also burning rubber but his started side stepping and got some help from Huerta.  That took him from P2 all the way to the back where he'd have to climb.  Frustrating.

Just up the track, Scot had been battering cars left and right to gather up spots and was doing a cracking job.

By turn two, there was a large moment in front of him and he was trying to carve a line through the mess.

The side to side would have been fine had he not had a car land on him and take out the engine.  Zack barely made it through alive but kept things moving forward.

Bear was pushing through spots and was top ten material when he got tapped sideways by Arnoux going through the bus stop.  Like Darrel, back to the back.

Zack continued to wrestle his car and it snapped loose on him out of the big sweeper and he almost came back across in front of Darrel.

Darrel was making up positions and hitting stride when he loaded onto the curb up through the Esses.

While trying to recover, the back came around and it he had to get those spots all over again.

I had managed to make a somewhat comfortable lead for myself but must have gotten complacent as I lost the back end over driving turn 10.  Kept it going but the pressure was on.

Darrel was making progress when he got a knock by Berger.

He avoided catastrophe for the second time at this track as all the cars came flying up the hill and tucked to the left, narrowly missing him.  But he would just fight to 21st, falling one short of points.

After another spin, I still held it together and took win number two, locking out the weekend for humans.
