Pot Luck 17 - R29-30 AVUS

Gut Slab fails to disappoint with another stellar pick for the championship.  AVUS, a German track from the 1930s(?), is deceptively simple with only three true corners.  Two races of 18 and 10 laps on Moderate damage (a wise choice).

Race 1:

The race opened with all but Gut Slab at the back of the field.

Slab had the lead by turn one and was able to avoid the calamity that came with it.

The Bear was the first human to the log jam that was the rest of the field.  Anyone behind this pile could only sit and wait for a hole to happen.

Slab maintained the lead for much of the race, only having to look out for the occasional car sliding across the median.

Much of these metal missiles were coming from Tnadz who was having a ball sending cars across the track.

But part way into the race, Slab came off turn three wide.

He spun out but managed to keep from slamming the outside wall and now had to chase back down that top spot.

Meanwhile, Gurton Buster was moving quickly through the field and not letting anyone get in his way.

Until he eventually caught Gut Slab around 3rd place.

At the same time, Tnadz came in to turn one hot and got into Genz who was extremely slow.

The two of them ended up behind the wall with Tnadz falling back to 20th.

Tnadz wasn't the only one with late race issues at the hairpin.  Scot got rammed violently by Marcos who impaled himself on the wall.

Myer didn't let being backwards slow him down either.

Like GB earlier, Gut Slab wasn't letting anyone get in his way.  But by this point, Buster was starting to get away.

While nearly all the humans made it to the end, there were those who didn't Hamilton got wide off of turn 3 but, unlike Slab, caught the wall hard and his engine failed to live on.

Sandy Smith had quietly been working the track and was poised to finish in the top half of the field when he went to deep into turn one.

Getting himself straightened out again, he nipped Myer who also spun and was also fighting Sandy for position.

This boiled down to a last lap brawl between Sandy and Scot (who were a lap down each) and Tnadz and Thiago (back of the pic).

Tnadz managed his pass before making it to the deadly turn two.

Coming out of turn three to the finish line, Sandy, like others before him, went to far off line.

While trying to straighten himself out, he overdrove it.

He slammed into the inside wall and was only just passed by Myer.  This conflagration caused Tnadz to slow down and was only just ahead of the 21.  Good finish.

What wasn't so good was what happened to what should have been a slam dunk finish.  Buster was leading by a bit and just had to bring it home when he touched off the wall at turn two.

In correcting for an unsettled car, it snapped towards the inside wall and sent the IKEA car on a wild ride...

...which ended after several rolls and one less engine at the bottom of the track, a mere football field from the finishline.

Slab didn't take a win but managed a great 2nd and ended in style.

Race 2:

This time around, Buster and Tnadz were on the front and would lead the way for the entire race.

Turn one for this second race (of only 10 laps) was much cleaner than normal.

And while no one was killed, Myer got into Sandy while trying to get going.  No harm was intended or really done.

Scot also got to enjoy watching another human wreck in front of him as Hamilton tried to keep his ride under control after turn two.  It didn't work out.

Smoke was extremely dense and he tried to turn himself around but instead just got right in front of Sandy Smith.  They both managed to keep going but were not in great shape.

This time, Scot was on a charge.  At least in the sense that he was clearing rivals who had trouble pointing the right way.

Hamilton eventually went up over the wall after a bad approach to turn three and his night was done.

Compared with Race 1, there was not much in the way of excitement as GB took back the win stolen from him in that first round and Tnadz held on to second.
