Pot Luck 17 - R27-28 Watkins Glen Full "Boot"

A proper road course returns to the schedule as the series hits Watkins Glen for the second time.  Darrel's pick is different than Gut Slab's Classic (no Bus Stop).  No, this time, for the first time, the drivers would run the full circuit.  The 14 flowing turns were an exciting addition to the season and worked out well for most.

Race 1:
With three humans at the front, things started off hot.  Fraga got into Gurton Buster right at the first corner.  No damage, but plenty of places lost.

But there were still plenty of other incidents.  It wouldn't take but to turn two before a clustered field sent two more to the wreckers.

The carousel saw even more off.

Tnadz got hung up by Casagrande and the two bounced off the wall.

Just ahead of them, Campos was in a pile of pharma cars.  And this was all lap one.

Hamilton was sitting pretty at the front until he rode too hard into the bus stop and spun.

He nearly had it caught and was getting righted when the 1 car plowed him.

Buster also had issues at the bus stop when Guga Lima tangled with his Reputation ride.

Before he had a chance to exact his revenge, Guga and Casagrande managed to take each other out.

Scot Myer was doing fairly well for being on a hiatus AND racing on a track he'd never seen before.  But despite his conservative driving, he still had trouble in the boot.

Zack Webster had been running on the podium when he lost it off the curbing up to the final corner.

GB was working the field and even made this harrowing 4-wide pass.

Which was so intense, the other drivers just wrecked themselves.

Yet again, he'd be foiled by an AI as he came to the bus stop and nearly hit again by the same driver.

With five to go, Mad Max was battling with Jimmenez when the 73 rolled him, taking him out of the race.

Tnadz got some revenge for Buster and continued his own march to the front.

In the end, he'd only just make the top 5 but was the highest placing human.

Despite the many setbacks and damage, GB clawed into the top ten and salvaged some of the race.

Despite a mostly innocuous run, Darrel was taken out on the last lap by the 21 at the infamous Bus Stop.  He still finished decently enough in the top 20.

As did Gut Slab who ran a steady and fairly clean race.

Race 2:
Buster grabbed the pole again and wasn't taking any chances as he quickly walked away from the field.

The start was much cleaner this time and there wasn't a wreck until after the bus stop where several drivers got well off line and few made it out.

Webster was battling hard for position and was nearly taken out by an altercation between Bueno and Genz.

Slab was also working on traffic and spun Brito.

Unfortunately, Myer was right there and got slowed up from it.

Hamilton was having a good race when he and Zonta just touched into the Bus Stop.  This lost him several positions and it was catch up from here.

Several laps in, Webster was tapped by Foresti who wouldn't give the line.  A fair amount of damage.

Monterio was also sent well off line through the bus stop.  His race was over.

Tnadz seemed to be surrounded by danger as Valerio got off line and careened back across the track.

Mad Max was having another modestly successful run when he caught too much curb through the Stop.

And rolled it.  This wasn't enough to kill the motor but they couldn't fix that damage.

Tnadz was making good ground when he had hardware difficulty on his pedals (they were running away).

Webster's woes ended with his engine over halfway.  Like Hamilton did in Race 1, he struggled without 4th gear from the start and endured a frustrating DNF.

Darrel was right behind him as he touched with Casagrande and went hard into the outside wall, killing the engine.

This left things mainly up to Tnadz and Buster for humans as Scot was a few laps down.

Slab would have been among that group but he got caught up in a wreck with Suzuki and parked it not long after that.

In the end, Tnadz worked up to 5th after spending several laps struggling to get his pedals situated.

GB grabbed another Swift victory, almost an entire lap ahead of the field.

Gut Slab has chosen the next track and it's also one never raced by these drivers: Automobil Verkehrs und Übungs Strasse or Avus50s.  Located in Berlin, this "road course" is going to be two races of ridiculous.
