Twisted Metal 2017 - Quarterslammer R1-3

We started off the series with a big bout of destruction at Quarterslammer.  This little track definitely had the competition in a dander and served as a great way to mix things up early.  The high grip and AI's devil-may-care driving style kept the playing ground even and fraught with danger.

Race 1:

The night started off swimmingly as 4/5 humans took to the front row.

And the chaos ensued immediately behind us.

Sandy fell back slightly with Sandy, Zack and myself in the front.  Zack was held up but did not push the issue as I slung by down low.

Darrel was running low off of 4 when he got caught up in the melee and struggled to work his way back up through the field over the rest of the race.

He was not helped as others kept hitting him on their way by.

That last one actually knocked Zack up into a cloud of cars and both he and Sandy almost lost it.

After running for a good while without much incident, I too was spun.

Sandy found his way by and into the lead.

He stayed there a while, avoiding dangers.

But as we had no damage, it was only a matter of time before he was caught in a wreck.  And it was a big one.

He managed to stay a ways up the order but got wrecked even more.

Sometimes by fellow humans.

I tried to avoid him as he was recovering from Darrel's tap but could not at such speeds and sent him upside down.

He recovered but his tires were shot and he fell down the standings in the pits.

At this point, I managed to climb back to the top, barely avoiding Scot who was thriving in the insanity, and only a marginal distance from Zack.

After some laps of cat and mouse, nearly all of us wound up in a big wreck.

Scot blasted Sandy badly.

While leading, Sandy threw himself up into the racing line to take me out and nearly succeeded.

I returned to first where I avoided dangers and the wrecks of those in the top three.

To take the win only a short ways from Zack.

Race 2:

Another grand start with all humans at the front this time.

Although Sandy was quickly caught and things started to go badly.

Scot even caught a hit on him as he was driving by.

The real blow came from the Bucs when they plowed full steam into his side, sending his Browns-mobile flying high.

Then hit him again.

As he tried to turn about, he was too high and got slammed by Zack.

Darrel was also caught in the aftermath but managed to hold it together.

The killing blow was from Darrel's Colts.  Sandy got exactly one lap into this race.

I had some trouble not long after when the Dolphins got a corner on me.

The Badgers managed to do some damage to Scot and Darrel at the same time by spinning the Outlaw and then coming up to knock the Texans car about.

I had recovered and was making up ground when the 49ers clocked me and got me spun on the front stretch.

After Scot had taken some terminal damage, he pulled through the pits to discover that he would not be able to finish the race.

So he did what he knows to do best and sacrificed himself on Sandy's Ravens.

He damaged and killed several others including himself.

Darrel had to tuck in for some tires and repairs around lap 20.

Zack was doing well but wasn't completely unencumbered.  

While he managed to spend a good portion of the race in first towards the end, he had to slow for an accident and that allowed a few past him.

He made a valiant effort to regain the lead but Mark's Patriots just beat him out.

Race 3:

Humans at the front again and damage on full.  Well, except one human stayed at the back as a strategy.  Will it work?  We'll soon find out.

Zack managed an early lead and we held 1-2-3 with Darrel watching our moves from behind.

Eventually, we caught Sandy who was already close to a top 30 at this stage, just surviving at the moment.

Things were OK until we tried to pass.  I had a good run on Zack and as he pulled up to pass, I didn't anticipate his movement fast enough.  I bounced off the outside wall...

...and right into his side.

He was almost fine until he was rammed by Rob's Rams.  Sadly, the rolling action from his flight, destroyed his engine.  Not how I wanted to start the race with Zack.  We have plenty of other tracks to completely destroy one another.

At this point, Darrel stationed in 2nd and Scot eventually pulled up to 3rd while Sandy slowly climbed the board from his cruising position.

Darrel was actually closing when I saw the wreck out of four a second before him.  As I slowed and pulled high, he plowed into my Eagles.

Not wrecked but definitely slower and was avoiding trouble...

...while also getting touched by Penn State like a little boy footballer.

He headed to the pits for repairs from both physical and emotional damage.

Scot had then taken the second position and things were going well with him less than a few turns behind me.  But the Badgers bopped him into the wall.

 Scot couldn't react fast enough and they came together.

But no harm was done and they continued on.

Once again my Eagles were in another scrap heap.  This time, Scot couldn't get out of the way and piled into them.

Darrel was riding close behind and nearly got caught up as well.

Sandy couldn't make it by unscathed and was tapped while slowing up by Scot's own Bears.

But much training and luck came to his rescue.  As did a wall.  And he continued on.

Scot however, didn't fair as well from his collision.  Passing through the pits wasn't enough to keep his leaking engine from DQing him.  He was tossed out like a hot dog wrapper and before he could even sacrifice himself on the track.

Sandy's method of conservation allowed him to nearly get a top 5 in the end.

I took the win for race three and the lead in the team points.

We go to Rounds 4-6 at Bowl Two next week.
