Twisted Metal 2017 - Mission Demo 8 R19-21

Out of the frying pan and into the fire as they say.  Mission Demo 8 was a mission few of us fully accepted.  As in, survived.  If nothing else, it has shown the equalizing potential of a figure 8 to points.  Let's take a look.

Race 1:

As per protocol, humans started in the back.

We came to the inevitable pile up with me and Sandy pushing high and Zack + Darrel trying to cut through the center.

This started Darrel's dismal first race of constantly getting wrecked and spun around.  He'd end up finishing well down the order with some help from his teammates in the end.

I was up to 3rd before I eventually got tagged by an ass hat NCAA driver.  I'd spend the rest of the race doing my best to stay in the top 20 after getting rolled and hit some more.

Sandy just broke the top 10 around half way when he managed to get turned around with Zack sailing by.

He too would have to deal with some pitting to recover his tires with around a dozen to go.

Sandy had finally fought back up to the top 10 when he was smacked around by my Cowboys.

This was compounded by myself and others as he tried to recover.  Despite this set back, he still managed a reasonable finish just outside the top ten.

Race 2:

With damage on, we took our places at the back and prepared for the first wreck of the day.

It came quickly with Zack and me zooming by on the low side.

We continued to observe wreckers (belonging to rival teams, well, not Zack's rival teams...) and kept out of the way while gaining spots.

Sandy slowed way down to try and keep driving while avoiding the deadly intersection.

Darrel tried a similar approach with less success.  Dead last.

Sandy survived but was down the order.  At this point he just had to stay alive and he'd climb.  Zack and I continued to bang on as I closed the gap.

While overtaking on his right, I heard a terrible sound and this is what was happening to my left.

Zack had been tagged and just caught Sandy's quarter panel and they were both around and around.

Zack took off but while Sandy was trying to recover, he got railed by the Hokies.  They survived by the way.

The spin put Zack out of rhythm but not out of the race and we proceeded to scare the piss out of each other by nearly wrecking every lap.

All was well and I was looking at a top ten when the Cardinals got in my way.  And made me die.

Zack had a run in and feared he was on his way to the garage.

But his crew got out a thousand saws and hammers and got his new Whelen modified to an 11th.

Race 3:

Damage Full and Darrel started off by just running himself into the wall to get things started right.

I wasn't doing any better as the damn Nittany Lions cut me off and ran me into the wall.

I then nearly killed Zack going to the pits for repairs, hoping the rest of the field would be dead when I came out.

Sandy was moving up the order when he and the Hokies came together again.  This time, they both died.

Although, Sandy's death was far more dramatic and debris-filled.

Darrel had less than half a lap to enjoy his new track position as he and my Giants went out in the usual way.

A lap after that, I came out and immediately died after crossing the line.

I only just missed the Oakland Raiders, one of the last human teammates at the end of the race.

And they would need to do well because Zack was busy dying with the Bengals only a lap before me.

In the end, only six cars finished.  A very low scoring race for most teams.

As I said, this has tightened up the points.  I only lead Scot's team by a 20 point margin.  We now go to 6 Feet Under where skill and tact will be required a bit more than luck.  Bring on the sub 10 second laps.
