Pot Luck 17 - R12-13 Watkins Glen Classic

Slab brought us to a classic track that's actually classic.  Watkins Glen without the Inner Loop. 

Race 1:

Tnadz and Gurton Buster were required to start at the rear but the rest of the fleshy contenders didn't fair too well in qualifying, making it a scramble to the front.

The first wreck happened at turn one as Caca Bueno and Osman swiped out and nearly took several humans with them.

Bueno didn't like that The Bear tried to take advantage via a pass and sent him into the wall at the top of the hill.

Webster had a rough going at the carousel... 

...a couple times.  This ruined his left rear for the race, leaving him slow and unsteady.  Which couldn't be fixed as this was a non-pitting sprint.

Monteiro turned down on Tnadz off the last corner, ruining his tires as well.

Then Suzuki pinned him in place and the two were stuck in a tug of war for several seconds.

Bear was trying to drive a steady race when Daniel Serra hit him violently approaching the carousel.

And in memory of the late JD McDuffy, he proceeded to wreck into the fifth turn as hard as he could.

Buster, who was up to 8th by this point, saw nothing but smoke and a car trying to be Mary Poppins.

Slab and Hamilton were struggling with their race as well.  Slab had a slow ride and Darrel kept disconnecting, eventually retiring altogether out of frustration.

Gut Slab stayed with it and had one of the most miraculous saves I've ever seen.  Approaching the last set of turns, he was hit and turned by Guga Lima.

He even started to go airborne.

But as he landed, he just caught on the front of Max Wilson's Eurofarma car and it was enough to set the car perfectly and he continued on as if nothing had happened.

Webster only just missed Lima who was practically standing still at this point.

Sadly, Slab's epic save was dwarfed by his car's lack of grip...

...and lack of not-being-stuck-on-the-end-of-pit-road.

GB was able to pass the entire field in relatively short order and breeze into an easy win.

Race 2:

The second run (after a violent first attempt) saw a change in order.  Tnadz did qualify, although in 15th.  The rest were back of the pack.

Tnadz had some near misses throughout and not everyone was left un-roughed.

Buster was hoping to pass the field and give Tnadz a run but was caught up by Osman approaching the last turn.

That caused a mess and cost a lot of time but not a lot of tires or damage.

Slab was then sending Wilson into the weeds on the backstretch.

When he came back across the track...

...and collected Zonta.

The wreck was fairly benign when Lapenna came on the scene and destroyed the Red Bull ride.

Just before halfway and at the start of the pit window, Tnadz was leading when suddenly he had a massive lockup.

This immediately ended what should have been a trouble-free victory.

The remaining two humans were in the pits to fill up and change out tires.  But wait, what happened to Zack?

On lap 5, he had a wild approach into the final corner.

That ran him into Campos.

And that was the end of that.

The Bear was trying to have a quiet race when he spun off of 1.  While recovering, he managed to catch up some others and watched as Barrichello got rolled (yet survived).

Yet still more joined the fray and Salas ended up a top on his top.

Through more consistency and some luck, Gurton Buster took his fourth win in a row.

He also has chosen the next track with Scot skipping his pick for the week.  Next track is another 2 rounder at a road course (shock and awe): Honda Indy Toronto.  Good old street circuits.
