Pot Luck 17 - R8-9 Pocono

The Bear keeps us on the path of ovals (sort of ) and chose Pocono for two rounds.  He also maintained the no-yellows streak and opted for the most fuel strategy possible with a minimum 2 stops.

Race 1:

Everyone could qualify so Riggleman and Tony Nadz took the front line with Gurton Buster not far back, despite a very loose ride.

His outside start didn't lend itself for advancing and he fell back.

After a few, relatively calm laps, Guga Lima rode Bia up the track in two.

She caught the wall and slowed.

This caused the field to stack and things got dicey between Atila and others.

Suzuki got run off and the dominoes started to fall.

Buster got a little bit of Suzuki but not enough for concern.

Webster managed to escape the whole mess by finding a hole and threading through.  He's known for that.

Things were calm for another several laps until Darrel Hamilton caught Casagrande and the two tangled in two.

Gut Slab was having a decent race but blew his engine early on.  Too bad because as we'll see, several more will not make it to the end.

Webster was in the twenties and looking to move up when he went three-wide into turn one.

That didn't work out for Khodair or Salas.

Or even Zack for that matter.

More than a dozen laps in and we were into our window.  Riggleman ducked in as he had been giving plenty of draft to Tnadz who stayed out one more lap.

The two would leap frog back around the next time and continue the 1-2 game until another pit window.

Hamilton was in trouble again, this time getting railed by Gomes.

Shortly after, Buster lost it off of turn one and did a number on his ride.

Foresti slowed after a stop and then parked it in turn one.  First on the low side and then moving up the track.  It's amazing no one got killed from this bizarre stunt.

GB was once again a victim, this time not of his own doing as the 90 Eurofarma of Maurício nailed him.

The Eurofarma boys were on a roll as the 29 of Serra took out Salas down the front stretch.

As he came back on, Abreu and Campos crushed him.

After the final round of stops for the leaders, they flip flopped positions just like the first time around with Riggleman whipping by on the outside through turn one.

Nadz tried to catch up but was waylaid by Genz.

Up the track, Hamilton was again into Campos and the two managed to take out Tuka Rocha

The Bear managed to split this wreck and slip through unscathed...for once.

Hamilton still managed to stay alive, even after getting railed by Barrichello.

Riggleman held on to take a win with Tony Nadz hoping for a few more laps to let lap traffic slow him down.

Race 2:

After a booched start and a technical restart, we got it going.  Webster managed to pull a fast time and nearly take the front row.

He seized on the opportunity to take the lead and ran off Tuka Rocha.  But he ended up spinning himself.

A couple laps later, Tnadz got into Guga Lima at a critical spot in turn 3 and spun.

He just grazed Gut Slab and Mark Riggleman spun around trying to avoid.

The Bear also got involved for some reason but caused little damage.

That award went to the failure, Tuka Rocha, who launched the Big Lots car into the air...

...landing him on the 13 of Nadz.  Both cars were trashed although Tnadz was able to finish out the race.

The field was bunched coming to the first round of pits and the all concertinaed up.

Buster came flying on scene and was slightly involved trying to avoid Montiero.

 

Slab, Buster and Hamilton were all running somewhat close together the whole race which made Slab's stop amusing.  Hamilton didn't have much room to clear out of there..  Notice, though, Slab still has his right rear tire in the stall even though he could of let it hang out there.  NASCAR should take note.

Slab celebrated this good stop by getting into Fraga.

The Bear came up on Tony Nadz who was going laps down and went inside through three.

The price of giving room to pass was getting stuck on the wall and spinning, requiring another set of tires.

Gurton Buster was still enjoying himself in Turn 1.

And Slab was too.  This was his second collision off of it.  Although, in this case, Abreu had a run on the outside and the two lines just happened to come together at the pivotal moment.

In the end, the humans suffered defeat with Hamilton placing the highest: 25th.

He also has chosen the next track: Sonoma.  Two rounds with no yellows.  Back to the road courses.
