Shorties RC 2019: 31-32 Taupo

The finale came and went on the shortest track of the series.  Not even touching a mile long, it was fast and furious and a bit tricky despite its size.  Australia proved to be a fantastic place to wrap up and it came down to the final two races to decide the championship.  In Race 1, the points leaders managed to close down on each other at the pointy end of the field.  Zolecki pushed to 2nd after a costly mistake at the final turn by Smith.  Tnadz kept up the pressure but lots of debris kept littering the track from the 008 car.  Meanwhile, Jaime was running down The Egg who looked like he had it all wrapped up by the end.  But he took a page out of Tnadz's book and booched it on the final lap going through the essess and handing the win to Zolecki.  Gut Slab had a good showing with a podium qualifying run along with Hamilton and The Bear had one of his best finishes of the series.

Race 2 didn't go so well for either Jaime or Ross who were both wrecked out early.  The only thing that could have lost The Egg the championship now would be a devastating DNF.  It almost looked that was going to be the case while he and Zack were jockying for position.  The Egg had pulled ahead by a few seconds when he became entangled with one of the Seats, earning some heavy damage and yielding the spot to Webster.  Zack then pushed his car to the limit and finally found himself in second place coming to the penultimate lap.  After a failed attempt to make a pass stick, he tried to get close going into turn one but his tires were too hot to handle and he had to limp home in second.  The Bear didn't have as good of a finish, though still in the low 20's and he managed to only lose a few spots from his strong qualifying.

In the end, it was The Egg who took the series by holding on to a top ten in Race 2 and winning by 18 points (the spread was almost 600 points).  Well done.
