Race 1: After a good practice (Scot getting at least a lap in...or just qualifying) we were all over the field for the race. Though practice times were decent and we were all at the top. Still, had to use a mulligan.
Chad brought out the first caution getting tight and running up the track. Fortunately, he was better off than these saps. The field basically then ducked into the pit, putting nearly all of the humans right at the front.
After more slamming, Darrel's broken heap died. Scot would bring out the next and final caution with some extreme drifting across the grass coming around 3 and 4. He actually caught it 3 times! But it was the last patch of grass, he accelerated a bit too hard and spun it.
Sadly this would cause a big loss in positions. At least until right at the end when he passed the whole field for the WIN! Or, lose a lap and go right back to where he was. In other news, three humans took the podium: Ross, Sandy, Chad. Good job.
Race 2: The race got underway and immediately, wrecks. Green and flag exactly the same time. Restart and we made it exactly less than one lap. Mulligan. The final start wasn't much better. Shortly into the 30 lapper, Sandy got hooked going down the back stretch and took two into the wall.
This yellow, only half the field pitted. So the humans were closer to the front but still a bit spread out. It wouldn't be very long before another caution. Chad got loose going through one and two in front of traffic.
Another yellow wouldn't be far off when Chad got into again in front of a fellow human. This time, Darrel would be in bad shape. Fortunately he'd still keep going. Chad, however, could take no more.
Back under green and things were going swimmingly. Sandy was doing well and even got a little coy running an AI up into the wall coming off of 4. Darrel was not as amused as that same driver came back into him.
During this time, Scot and I were both running one and two at the front of the field, keeping base and staying just ahead of the field.
But with about 4 to go, Scot was caught by the field and started getting some oversteer following a caution. He slammed J Joe and fell swiftly through the order.
But all and all, it wasn't bad racing. There was plenty of good spots and cautions weren't long. In fact we finished right on time. Next week takes us from a mile and a quarter to a quarter mile. Thunder Road is a tiny track. Smaller than the paper clip of Martinsville, this place is like a Cheerio (says Sandy). Hopefully we can get some of the absentee ballot in to brush up skills before stepping into the full out cup series in February.
