Twisted Metal Tour - Grid Iron Division 2015 - 37-39 Quarterslammer

As we come to the penultimate race of the series, there is a close battle for the top positions.  Quarterslammer proved to be a handful of a race.  We started out at 50 laps and went down to 25 after adding damage.  Darrel couldn't be with us due to computer problems but Scott Hagerty joined the fray.

Race 1:

Zack robbed the pole and things started off in a cluster.

We ran several laps fairly close together when I bounded off of Darrel's Broncos

And into Zack.

From there, things became a game of slam or be slammed.

I was coming around a bend as Zack was barreling into LSU.  Not complaining.

While most of the collisions were minor, there were a few major clusters.

And falling Bears.

Not long into the run, I came upon this group of folks having a popcorn accident.  We'll see more on this spectacular crash later.

Things were starting to go well with me up to the top 5 when the Lions got in the way.

And I made the top...of my roof...touch the track.

And it was the pits.  But I was not alone as Zack showed up shortly after.  Even still, he also didn't have to wait half as long as I did for his tow to finish.  I call cheats!

Back in the hunt and Zack was careening into me as he blasted through a pile.

Mostly fine, I ended up taking a spin off of the Bulldogs while Scot got a Seminole Smash!

This was my All-State Safe Hands moment of the race as I came flying through this gaggle and past, unscathed.

It wouldn't take long to find those damn Lions again though.  The Cardinals may have had a slight hand in this one.  Unfortunately, this came with but a lap to go and I spent so much time trying to right myself I fell from the top ten down to 17th.  It could have been worse.

Sandy started in the back and it wasn't but mere feet before the track was almost completely blocked.

While he managed to pick his way through the opening mess, my Chiefs fell upon him some laps later.

And much of the laps after, he was bounced between cars.

But it wasn't just AI.  Here he takes a chunk out of Mad Max's front end.

This was Bear's All-State Safe Hands award as he deftly maneuvered through this sliding chicane.

Past halfway, these two found each other again.  Notice Scot's trajectory up the track.

As expected them make contact and blunder about.

But miraculously keep it going.

Then immediately afterwards, they come upon cars littering the track and join the pop-corn crash.

Even though Sandy flipped over the pit wall, he got going right away only to be vexed by his reliable Raiders.

Then smashed by the Gators!

AND THEN by Detroit!  Will it ever end?

Nope.  This one got hairy on the backstretch.

He worked with the Chargers to go for the ultimate high jump record.  It was close.

Even though Darrel was out, his avatar was laying the bricks to The Bear.  This one would force Sandy down pit road.

When he emerged, Mad Max was right on him.

Sending the Browns packing.

It wasn't all wrecking for himself though, he managed to evade some nasty entanglements.

But these two couldn't help themselves and were at it again.  This time, Scot was blasting Sandy on his way by.  You'd think these two were going at it for position.

Sadly, from here, things were more up than down.

And around.  Hey, it's the Lions again!

But The Bear fought back when he could.

Even though there was as much taking as giving.

And another visit by Mad Max.  Get a room you two!

This last one, however, finally cooked his poor tires and he barely made it back.

A short pit and he was back into it.  Too bad it was right at the end of the race.

Scot's race was about what you would expect.  He started up in the front.

And was quickly caught in a wreck.  I was just trying to hold my line people.  Still, 2/3rds of the team are wiped out.

But this early on, he would have a chance.  Too bad his Jets were right there with him.

Scot definitely got knocked around...

...but managed to save himself quite a bit.

Until he couldn't help himself.

After that spin, Hagerty came flying in and it was a merging of the Scot(t)s.

That's when Sandy and his Raiders ran a double team play.  Now his aggressive nature is starting to make sense.

Even when involved in the worst accidents though...

...Scot managed to hold on.

Well unless he didn't.

Ooo looks like more team orders...

Despite his crafty weaving through traffic, he did get nailed on occasion.

Even Zack didn't let him get in the way.

Ah the famous popcorn crash!  He and his Ducks were not spared.  We'll soon find who the originator of this accident is.

Out of the fire...

And into the catch fence.

We saw it earlier but here you can really get a good look at how Mad Max went mad and ran way off line.

With cross-hairs squarely on The Bear's back.

And like a cruise missile, he smashes his target...and...drives on?

At this point in the race, Scot got in his routine of taking people out.

He especially took to smooshing guys into the fence and having them spin into all dimensions.

He couldn't completely keep out of regular wrecks though.

At least he kind of avenged himself.

Like Sandy, there came a point where his tires were so badly busted...

...he couldn't even make it to his pit box.  That's your teammate Scot!  They can't service your car there!

After NASCAR towed him back, he finally got the tires he needed.

And went right back to Hulk Smash mode.  Stupid Colts...

Scot almost avoided this wreck entirely but got wiggly from all that bouncing around.

That slowed him down enough that the Seminoles came around and gave him the boot.

Scot had some close calls.

And this was his All-State Safe Hands award.

As he crossed the line, Zack gave him the ol' competition side swipe, sending him into a crazy spiral.

Speaking of Zack, let's hop into his race.  Like I said, we were running within range when things got crooked off of Darrel's avatar.

Even after that, we still managed to find each other again.

But he hammered his Eagles and I would start to pull away.

As you can see, I didn't make it very far.

Nothing like a group photo.

Zack found himself getting caught on all kinds of characters.

Here's that one point when he just blew through Scot and kept on going.

Actually, much of Zack's race was fairly clean, relatively.  Stupid Lions.

And this garbage is most definitely his All-State Safe Hands award.

Finally, we get to see how this thing started.  Zack had actually been knocked slightly askew and got Ramschankled.

While trying to recover, things went downhill.

The cars never stopped coming.

Looks familiar.

Then he started going after my team.

Even me.

Absolutely blasted the Ducks.  Made some soup,

Like Scot, he got into his attack mode and started plowing traffic.  Stupid USC.

Then it became a game of dodge ball.  This could almost be a second award...

Or this one.

Not this one.  Poor teammates.

Oh, but wait!  That last hit was a terrible mistake.  Oh no!  He is stuck on the apron.

And that was the tragedy that brought him to the pits the same time as myself.

Once he got back going again, he didn't waste anytime...

...eyeing the situation...

...and making a hole.

Boy, does he hate his Peagles.

Wow, another close one.

Zack managed to claw his way into the twenties after some tough knock downs.  Here he gave a love tap to Scot while the Vikings were wrapping up their race.

Finally on to Hagerty who started off in the middle of a wreck.

He earned his All-State Safe Hands award...

...quite early on.

But wouldn't exactly keep driving that way.

Even still, he managed to blow through his wrecks either unscathed or still pointing the right direction.  Very little time spent diddling.

But he did have some nasties.

Everyone hates Detroit.

And Scott hates the Bulldogs.  Wow.

Some of the wrecks he got in to...

While others he just nipped by.

Still others, he couldn't contain himself.

I know we laid blame for that popcorn crash on Zack, but actually it started much earlier as Hagerty gently bumped into the Jets.

That sent them slightly to the left where Zack was blasting into frame.  The sudden momentum shift caused him to slide out into the wall and the rest is history.

Yep.

Very nice.

This would be Scott's last wreck of this race.

As the Ravens upended him.

Sending him to the pits where he awaited a long tow and only got out for a single lap.

Normally, I would show Race 2 and 3, but it's gotten late tonight.  To be honest, there wasn't much that happened.  Race 2, half the field was out and it was about as messy as the first one.  Race 3 only saw a few humans left at the end, Sandy, Zack and myself.  Scot took the 10th spot and the Diehard award but only because he never left his car.

We now move on to our final race: Destruction Arena.  And with this monster of a question mark standing as the last track, we have a major battle for 3rd between Darrel and Sandy who are separated by only two points.  Scot, Chad and Hagerty are in a similar fight where they are only a point apart and just outside the top ten.  Rob Cook sits tied in 20th but isn't far behind while Bill Man is back far enough to not bother anyone much.  Zack is technically still within striking distance at 48 points behind me but it isn't very likely he can clear that gap.  He would almost entirely be relying on my demise and bonus points from his teammates but he could do it.  This is Destruction Arena after all.
