Twisted Metal Tour - Grid Iron Division 2015 - 25-27 Indy Wave

Our most psychadelic track has proven to be a load of fun and frustration for everyone at some point.

EDIT: I'd like to point out that this was our first team wildcard race.  And although it was between Scott Hagerty and Chad, neither was available to race and neither of their teams scored any awards so no bonuses were dished out.

Race 1:

Several of us humans started at the front for the first round with Zack gunning it to gap the field.

I reeled him in and we were running less than a tenth apart for a few laps until my car got away from me on the jump into 4.

Zack ran off with the lead until he came upon calamity.

And a big 'ol wreck.

He still held the lead but then came into more trouble.

I then made the pass for the lead.

But the lead would not last long as I came upon some wrecked traffic that got me sideways into the wall.  Attempting to just blast through me, Zack came flying in.

We were both knocked all over.

While it looked like we would each get back going again...

...someone's Eagles came flying up and knocked me stupid.

Zack continued to run away with the lead.

But came up into the Jaguars struggling for speed out of two.  He got launched by the Patriots.

Sandy came on the scene and almost made it past to get his lap back when he just clipped the Jags.

Then an interesting thing happened as he was curbed over to the inside of the track.  His car was launched straight into a gap in the fence that normally shouldn't be accessed.

He was well into the infield and attempted to drive back through the gap he entered through and was DQed for his efforts.

I was on my way forward and found the Eagles several times, letting them know what I thought of their driving.

But I would only make it to 4th a ways behind Zack who finished in 3rd.

And what of our other heros?  Darrel came into situations early on that tricky turn 4 jump.

And found himself on his top.

It continued on as he kept getting the PIT maneuver pulled on him time and again.

And if not getting hit inside, he was hitting outside.

This one was in front of leader Webster.

And it was a snarl of Broncos and Panthers.  Darrel finished down the order but did manage to make several positions back despite his troubles.

Scot's race was a little less frustrating but pretty exciting.

The first half was mostly close calls and pacing well.

Some of those were a little too close.

In an effort to avoid Sandy's mess, he got rolled.

And a similar even happened a lap later.

The Texans happened shortly after that.

Same place a different lap and it was the Trojans hanging out in the middle of the track.

While he managed to get as high as 6th, he finished 25th for all his troubles.

Race 2:

Another 15 lapper and things started off a little more exciting than Race 1.

 And like Race 1, my car had trouble on the turn four jump.

 Back in the top 5, the other humans were fighting hard through traffic.  Sandy nearly got taken out by the 52 but bounced off the wall and kept it going.

As Mad Max, Darrel, and The Bear were running back behind Zack, Sandy had to take evasive maneuvers to avoid the 34.  He bounced the wall with some damage but kept her going.

Scot was the first casualty as he got into the Patriots coming over the jump and tore into the wall.

Darrel was running 2nd without problem when the Texans came up off of pit road right in front of him.

He also bounced the wall to keep the car under control and thought it was over...

But the Texans held their speed over the jump and the lower line set them all cockeyed as they hit the rise in the road.

And that sent them straight into Darrel.

 Basically ruining his race.

Sandy started having trouble coming up over the back stretch wave.

And the awkward corner entry sent him tumbling and he fell back to 8th.

Zack was enjoying his 1st place drive when he harpooned Michigan over the jump.

He also saved it by just pancaking into the wall but the slowdown and damage allowed me to take the lead which I'd only just hold to the end.

Darrel had made it back out on track and was looking to make up some positions and possibly grab another point or two when he got rocked into the wall.

He actually kept it going and may have been OK but then Zack came by and had no control over the jump, sending Darrel out of the race.

Sandy was moved up to 5th when he started getting ravaged by the track and the 55.  But while he was smoking like a burning apartment building, he did finish in 12th.

Race 3:
Before the green was thrown, there was a problem immediately:  The Bears couldn't start.


Then, as the three drivers behind them got going, they wrecked trying to catch up to the field:


The Raiders were then dead before the race started.  Oh well, the final round and 15 laps of full damage.  At the start, I was pushing Darrel.

 Going into turn one, they were side by side.

 Darrel then shied away from Zack and let off the throttle going into the corner.

Sandy and I both pushed to the inside to avoid Darrel. 

This set all three of us together as we went through the corner.  Darrel and I touched and Darrel went up into the outer lane.

The extra slowdown from saving the car let the Irish come winding up and they wrecked into the 7.  What's that mess in the background?  You'll see in a moment.

Hamilton kept it going but the Jaguars tried to fit between him and the wall.

That sent Darrel on a trajectory that not only rolled the car but put him in the path of several...

...other...

....cars...

Now looking back at that puff of smoke, Scot was holding off the competition and eventually eased his way into them.

And the dominoes fell.

At least half of them...

And with that, there were four humans at the front.

I'd be the next out as I was close behind the 63 when he let off going through turn 4.

And I rolled into oblivion.

Then there were three.

Zack was just starting to gap Sandy when he came upon this.

Which held this.

Then there were two.

But not more than a lap later than did Sandy set himself poorly off the jump corner.

He rolled it and then got slammed.

Fortunately, it also took out USC.

In the end, it would be Scot who patiently held in to finish with the win.

On to the next race at the third figure 8:  Mission Demo 8.
