Race 1:
It was a gripping standing start with Darrel tearing away from the pack and Sandy doing his best not to turn me with such a terrible first gear.
Zack was in the back and barely avoided this attack! But he managed to squeak by without harm and keep on eye on the competition while he felt out his car.
So after a few more laps, Roseburg and company lead the charge...straight into the wall.
This one was more hectic and caused Zack to go evasive.
That action got him damaged and stuck against the fence where a tow was required.
About lap 10 and the top three humans were heading in for the first stop. It was utter disaster. Darrel cut over late and the brake + turn in caused him to go square into the wall. Dead.
Not but 100 yards down the way, I did the exact same thing. I noticed that my tires started bouncing like mad when I was about 2/3 into the brake which I think caused this to happen.
But there was no learning here as I raked the side of Sandy's pristine ride, killing his crew and their families instantly and, worst of all, scuffing his helmet. This had the effect of destroying his car completely. He was set to win and was killed while not even moving.
Despite all that, I managed to survive for the second round of pits where I met my friend Alonso, who felt he owned all of pit road.
After a chumly rustling against the wall, I was thrown into Schumacher and rendered dead.
Which left Zack as the only living human to finish this one. 25th for sure, but a DNS it was not.
Race 2:
Another rousing start where Darrel and I got a quick run on Sandy. All but Zack at the front.
He was back watching the field wreck itself.
And still had to avoid debris on the next lap.
At the front there was some jockeying and close racing between the three humans. Nothing fancy as we had 27 laps and two stops to get through.
Suddenly, disaster as Darrel went in too deep! Slightly off pace for a bit.
The first round of stops and Sandy ducked in a lap before me and Darrel. I got another case of the bouncey tires...
And rolled on my top. But still alive!
Darrel somehow fared worse as he ran out of gas only a handful of stalls from his stop. A costly tow, even if it was a short one.
Sandy had no trouble on his stop and was effectively the leader.
Coming around to pick up Darrel again, Barrichello decided to knock me up the track.
Because he hit me right at the crest of the hill, I had to ride it into the wall or face another roll over. This might not seem like a lot but would cost me a win in the end...stay tuned.
Darrel wasn't out but definitely down. Still, he did his best to come back and he was charging hard.
Even Zack was kicking along quite well and was up on the podium for a moment.
Then disasters began. Before the second pit, Darrel's engine blew up shortly after he passed me.
Sandy was leading the race by a healthy margin when he stopped. He had some wheel-button issues and had to reach down and hit the space bar. But he errantly struck the V key which changed his view to another car and was completely disruptive, causing him to lose massive amounts of time in the pits.
Zack was on pace for at least second when he suddenly turned in too sharp on 1.
The results were a disaster.
But he did manage to take a few out.
Sandy struggled forward and picked up a 4th but kicked himself for what became another golden ticket, blown away in the breeze.
I somehow picked up the lead but because of my prior damage, was caught by Surtees in 2nd.
He made the pass on the last lap and barely beat me. A new enemy in my sights.
I'm pulling a France/Jr rule this week. Since we don't have enough courses to do a full round of picks, we switched to the lowest placed driver in points. That would have been Scot but he was out due to sickness (to me? Maybe....). That passed it to Zack who reserved to take his pick week after next due to a prior engagement. That left Darrel to pick....Dover. Oh boy.
