Twisted Metal 2017 - Marty Moville R40-42

Our final track is upon us and before we go to our Super Speedway from Satan, we swung by one of the smaller tracks on the schedule and a new one for us.  And it didn't disappoint.

Track 1:

Our 55 lap race started off with no damage and Mr. Riggleman showing up to lead his team into the fray.  Side note, they were sitting 2nd in the points going into tonight.

I hung out in the back and got to see the car park take shape.

But once we got going, we each started tearing into the competition.  Because that's what we do.

Zack was also doing some damage to NCAA teams on his way towards the front but you could tell he was holding back somewhat.

Sandy and Darrel were mostly going conservative and trying to avoid wrecks for better positions.  But we'll see how that works out.

OK, so not so great for Darrel as he gets lapped for the first time by Mark leading the way.

But he wouldn't stay at the front for long.  Like every other race we have, good speed is a small factor of success and Zack snuck by while Mark was held up in messes.  Surrounded by his team, he gently passed Sandy.  Weird.

Darrel slammed into Zack who was hanging out in that very accident, causing him to burn up some rubber and cost him time.

Which allowed me to...kind of catch up?

And by catch up, I mean, only go down one lap.

Meanwhile, Mark was slowly tearing up tires as he rounded it over the moguls on the front stretch, costing him a lot of positions.

Sandy was still putting in on the fight and was up into the top 30 at one point.  Darrel was still struggling.

But he had company as pileups were abound.

Mark eventually burned out his tires and not-rage quit.  He wasn't aware of the tow.

I just thought this was funny.

So after some back and forth, Zack and I managed to find each other again.  It was kind of funny considering his method was nimble and tactical while I was blunt force trauma.

Like Mark, however, Zack was starting to wear out his wheels as well and he was starting to over rotate on exit.

Which allowed us to slip by.

Well, Darrel was still laps down and deep in the field so I decided to help by taking out cars in front of him.

Fine work.

Of course, this didn't do much to help my race and Zack caught back up to put me a lap down.  His nearest rival now a full track length behind, he was feeling a little more at ease.

But the hits kept on coming and humans were all together again.

All together.

And then it was on as Zack and I went at each other again.  Not really hitting but having some good ol' racing.

Until I saw a NCAA team.  Boilermakers had to die.

Despite Zack getting back around me, he quickly lost it from his cooked Goodyears and let me back by.

And got hit (unapologetically) by Sandy.

AND by the Boilermakers.

AND AGAIN by the Philly Eagles.

It didn't seem like he could catch a break and it was really starting to take a toll.

Despite all this, I wasn't making up too much ground because I was off being a jerk.

Yep.

Sandy was making good work up the order but then got hit by Zack's goon for what he did for the team captain.

After getting beat around in the above frames, Zack came on him and also slapped into him.

Despite his intentions, it slowed him down and he had some trouble with the Nittany Lions.

I was back on the lead lap and decided to do some press shots with fellow humans.

Tiny little cars...beautiful.

After Zack was held up again from a sluggish car and more roadblocks, I slipped by right at the end of the race and Darrel was kind of in Zack's way.

Which he quickly showed his appreciation for by getting revenge.

We then did another flying father and son shot coming to the end.

When he almost hit me.  It could have cost me the race.

Because I was doing everything I could to screw it up myself.

But I held off Zack's charge and took the win while he suffered a catastrophic 2nd place.

Race 2:

Laps dropped to 28 and damage to full.  Mark had the pole again but something strange happened and he took my idea by slamming on the brakes.

Although I was a little more dramatic.

Very dramatic.

Despite that nonsense, he made it around the car heap and hung out with some other humans for a bit on a mostly empty track.

Of course, I wasn't helping matters.

Zack showed his appreciation by nearly landing on me.

But we were having some real good fun all racing together and avoiding each other's cast offs.

Although there was a very close moment when I came off the wall and nearly pegged Darrel.

Tense moments but we managed to keep it clean and carry on.

Until Zack actually landed on me.

And Sandy smacked me.

Despite my abuse, Zack's Broncos felt it necessary to carry out some vendetta for him.

I did at least get some payback against Sandy.  Not that I could see him flopping around with the Spartans.

Even his own teammate thought he was being a little silly.

Darrel was doing better this race but was still the subject of some metallic mangling.

Back to Sandy, he was doing alright when Mark, back on a rampant charge to the front, side swiped him.

The resulting damage was fierce and race ending.  At least the Boilermakers weren't unaffected.

Like in Race 1, I decided to help Darrel and also myself by flinging NCAA teams around.

Well and whoever else got in the way.

And this is how he repays me.

Mark's progress was stalled by the Ravens, taking his own revenge against his captain's killer.

So then he switched to taking out my teammates.  Fair enough.

He was back on the war path, going for his lap back from Zack and possibly taking him out when he lost his back end off of turn four.

Seeing that the Boilermakers were still running, I couldn't help myself.

But it didn't help my cause really.

Zack got to relish that the free-radical on the track was incapacitated.

But didn't get to enjoy it for long as he slammed the Badgers.

Which would have allowed Mark to slip on by except he thought it necessary to blast the Badgers too.  I can't blame him.

Back on the track, I had one lap to just kill people and that's what I tried to do.

Sadly, it wasn't terribly successful.  Mark was involved in some of my work but Zack managed to sneak through.

Taking his first win of the night.  Oh, spoiler alert, he wins again in Race 3.

Race 3:

Things started with some semblance of order this time with Mark taking a huge jump on the start.

Some semblance.

Several laps in and Zack was on the charge to catch Mark.  Trying to balance strong lap times with his car's damage that ticked up every time you go over that jump.

I was doing my thing.

Mark at one point tried to use Darrel as a pick and almost succeeded but Zack was too quick and juked low.

Then Mark's race went wrong.  While he maintained a good margin, he hit this landing very wrong.

The resulting damage from the road and wall killed his engine within a lap or two and Zack made his move.

I was still hunting for NCAA cars which was getting sparse this race.  Darrel was pleased.

I couldn't get them all, however, and the Texans went for a ride.

Zack ALMOST had a bad wreck that could have ended his race but just scraped by.

While being slowed by shenanigans, the Chiefs took me out.

The Bear had a front row seat.  One that was probably in need of a clean.

I then was pummeled to death.

Zack had another close call but merely bounced a little between cars and kept on.

He then finished out some laps later with his victory.

We now enter our final rounds of the Twisted Metal Tour.  The contenders have been chosen for the last Wild Card and it's as serendipitus as many of the picks have been this season.  Sandy and Zack will face off once again in the finale.  Both have a chance of claiming victory, although Zack has better odds.  This should be good.  FYI, I've gone back through and corrected some points.  It turns out that the scoring system was only accumulating points from the top three finishers in a race and not the three teammates with the most points on the team.  This lead to a few changes in accumulation.  However, very little changes as far as gaps except maybe from me back and a few of the NCAA teams actually losing points (it double counted them for all team members in the first races somehow).  Destruction Arena is next.
