British Trucks 2018: 39-40 Martinsville

On to the slow and steady banks of Martinsville where the series takes a break from high-speed action and trades it for a rodeo clown of a raceway.  Some last minute changes as the track was switched from a newer version of Martinsville (APT version) to the old Smiffsden one that had better grip an more interesting lighting (later afternoon/evening race). Twitch live stream brought to you by The Egg and DeCon.

Race 1:
Racing with a broken clavicle, Tnadz stunned the crowd by grabbing the pole but only by a narrow margin from Gurton Buster.  The Egg wasn't far behind and he quickly advanced up the order to within striking distance.

In usual fashion, GB galloped with Tnadz for a few laps.  However, a slight touch caused him to veer off line.  While he avoided all contact, he slowed enough to all The Egg to pass.

In the field, Webster was doing his best to make every pass 3-wide and Hamilton was on his way to help.

Darrel, however, got a little too aggressive in the corner and the back end stepped out, bringing out the first caution.

Only minor bumps as the field went by but he got a good shot from Sandy as The Bear used Casula as a cue ball.  Not really intentional, though as he was going to pass low and only just noticed a hard charging Gut Slab flying down the inside at the last second.  He veered away to avoid certain death from the Red Bull truck.

Under green, The Egg got a jump on Tnadz.

GB was close behind and doing his best to drift as many corners as possible.

The next caution came out as Zack Webster sent Tubby Tompkins into O' Regan.  Should have been more 3-wide.

Back under green, Tnadz continued to chase The Egg and Buster was throwing the ass end out like he was in any car movie from the 70's.

Just behind that, Webster was getting tripped up by Tressler who sent him up the track.

After getting knocked around and then cow punched by Pat Stevens, Webster managed to regain control.  But the 4 was off into the wall and the yellow was out.

Back under green, Buster had a run up the inside of Tnadz.

A moment of controversy ensued as Gurton felt he had the line but Tnadz claimed he heard no spotter calls of someone inside.  The 008 backed out to avoid wrecking him, which he might have been within his rights to do.

And he almost immediately regretted not doing it as he came off the corner and rubbed along an advancing Willis.  The contact was slight but enough to send GB into the inside wall and back several spots.

Halfway in, The Egg had a moment and slid up the track, handing the lead back to Tnadz.

Around the next corner, Tnadz had some difficulty completing the pass and the two white trucks touched, sending Egg off the wall.

Some laps later, Hamilton was trying to take his time into turn 3 when Rocha got him sideways, bringing out another unwarranted caution.

Coming to the line, The Egg squared off with Willis and just won back the second spot.

Coming to the next green, Hamilton anticipated the green flag right as Casula was throwing his brakes.

Sandy Smith anticipated none of this and knocked the 61 right back into the Kmart truck.

At the front, it looked like Egg was going to take back the lead.

But wait!  As Darrel's wreck took place after the green was thrown...

...the caution came out right at the line.  Thus, The Egg had to return to second place.

The next start saw Tnadz moving hard left to block a potential pass at the line.

While he maintained a steady lead for the closing laps, the pressure was on and that broken neck bone was getting tired.

Then, with three to go and getting into traffic, Tnadz overran turn one giving The Egg his run on the lead.

Almost immediately behind them, GB did a very similar thing but completely looped it.  While he recovered just as quickly, the caution was out, leaving Tnadz no chance of retaking 1st.

Before Burton came back around, though, he let Dixon know he was a dick.

While he managed to keep it going, the 008 brought it home in what he saw as a disappointing 6th.  Zack Webster, however, worked through the field and earned an impressive 7th.

Without any issues, under caution (surprisingly), The Egg finally broke a long winless streak.

Race 2:
Laps doubled to 100 and The Egg started off the main event with familiar faces in tow.  Once again, no mulligan needed at Martinsville.

After a few short laps, these four emerged at the front, quite evenly spaced.

But it wouldn't be long before the first caution as Sandy spun it in front of the leaders, struggling with faulty equipment and a very solid, undrilled desk.

Coming around to pit road, Tnadz was blocked by Webster, and couldn't pull in to top off.

The rest of the field did, however, and there were lap trucks aplenty.

Hamilton was spun with some help from Lee Rogers, bringing out another yellow.

This time, Tnadz made it to pit road but he was quite alone.

Which put him at the back and right next to The Bear who sent him into the wall as his steering wheel continued to come undone.

As Hamilton made to avoid the scuffle, he was hit by Tompkins and many curses were had!

The next caution came as Webster overdrove the exit of two.

Much wrecking ensued.

As they say, Gut Slabs breed cautions and he brought one out getting into Mel Collins.

But it was the aftermath that proved to be the real cause for the yellow.

Webster managed to find a hole on the outside and scuttled by like a cat.

Tnadz was at fault for the next caution period, sending Tworz into the wall.

Hamilton was up next as he bounced of Yughes into Saldas.

As his truck started to loop around, he was attacked by several trucks at once and rolled dead.  This was all within about 30 laps.

Green flag and several humans were back within striking distance of the front runners.

After a fairly long green run, by almost divine intervention, Gut Slab looped it right in the fuel window.

Everyone was in.

Except GB who lost internet.  Fortunately, the NASCAR gods smiled upon him and his position was restored.

Reinvigorated without damage or fuel worries, he slammed into Zack on his coke fueled run to the lead.

Webster would get caught in some lap traffic shortly thereafter and another caution was out.

Another green and things were starting to look more like the start of the race than the second half.

Webster's luck continued to fail him as he looked to pass inside and was instead caught up in the conga line to pit road.

And while his eventual spin didn't bring out the caution, Tnadz was looking out for him by taking out O' Regan on accident mostly to save his shoulder.

But in fact it was Webster's rival, The Bear, who was his savior, bouncing off of Pab and Smythe.

With more laps behind than ahead, Buster was making his presence known to The Egg.

But their battle would be interrupted again as Slab and Hunter came together, smearing the wall.

The next green flag was a game changer as GB made a move low and Egg was way up the track.

Things got very stacked up just behind them.

And further behind that as Gut Slab got into Tressler for another caution.

Webster was continuing to have some mad dashes to the line.

Like a serial killer with a new found taste for flesh, The Egg was hungry for another win and poured on the pressure.

It was looking like it was going to work too as he kept getting his nose along side the Strongbow truck.

And then, with five to go, there was the slightest, almost imperceptible, wisp of a touch.  And in most circumstances, it would have been negligible.  Here, however, it was right at the worst moment.

GB went around and The Egg was caught in it as well.  Tnadz, who had been circling like vulture for scraps, was too close to press the advantage and slowed to the inside while Goldstraw went clear and high for the lead.

With all this going on and the end of the race immediately happening, Webster threw it up the inside and somehow made it through to finish 7th.

The Egg recovered for 4th but Buster was out of position from the spin and dropped to just inside the top 10, hurting standing points badly.

Tnadz just didn't have enough race left to effect a pass, giving him another 2nd and Goldstraw the win.

Next week it's back to Texas for what has been described as "the track where finishes can only get better".
