Pot Luck 17 - R49-51 California (original)

A surprise ending to the series as there was anticipation for just one more track pick from Scot.  But he bowed out and The Egg took us to California (the original Papyrus version).  First place in the points was in contention as Tnadz held on by only 20 points ahead of Max Wilson.  Gurton Buster was only a few positions back and still had a chance.  It was going to be close.  Three races at no damage, the first one at 38 laps and the remaining two at 25.

Race 1:

While Riggleman was in for practice, he went away for Race 1 qualifying which left the front three spots to Egg, Tnadz and Webster.  Hamilton had a slightly lower position in the brackets but was still within top 10.

Although it didn't take but the first lap for him to get spun just ever so slightly by Casagrande.  Without the draft and worn tires, Hamilton's race hopes were dashed.

Gut Slab also had early issues, spinning on the apron and then parking it for most of the race for Slab Time.

After only a lap or two, Egg sailed by Tnadz for the lead.

Webster also slung by, hoping to hold the spot and close on Egg over the next 30+ laps.

After almost 10 laps in, GB had been hovering around the back, fighting a terrible setup when he was tapped by Tuka Rocha and sent to the wall.

Eventually he was lapped by Egg and the other leaders.  Egg was quickly leaving tracks while Zack and Tnadz stayed in lock step.

Slab eventually rejoined and around lap 20, he was caught up in the shuffle.

And it got messy.

As the leaders came to it, there was a gap for Egg through the smoke.

But just as he got there, Suzuki slapped off Genz and was knocked into the Save-a-Lot car.

He would have harmlessly bounced off the wall if it weren't for the 70 of Nunes sitting almost still right there.

Even then, he was pointed straight and was starting to get going with still plenty lead when Galid rammed the hell out of him.

As he picked up speed, Zack had caught up and swept by.  Would there be enough laps left?

Even Tnadz made a pass on Egg but quickly gave back the position after tangling with Brito.

And with 7 to go, The Egg finally caught and passed Webster.

But it was far from over and just ahead, The Bear was knocked aside by Camilo into the wall.

And was rolled over by Pizzonia

He proceeded to have a large moment.

As the carnage unraveled itself down through turn three and four, The Egg and Zack just barely made it by.

Tnadz almost made it but was just tipped by Serra as The Bear knocked him down the track.

Coming to the white flag, The Bear found himself in trouble again as Tuka Rocha took him out, right in front of the leader.

This time, the Egg was unfazed and focused on making one more lap.

Just ahead, Muchogrande was getting revenge on Casagrande for the lap 1 incident.

That lead to a massive altercation that the Egg could not avoid while running the high line around traffic.

It almost looked like he was going to run the race out backwards but eventually had to stop and turn around while Zack pushed on by.

Slab wrapped up his race low in position but high in spirits.

Tnadz rounded out 3rd

The Egg held on for 2nd.

And Zack got a Happy Birthday win.

Race 2:

Riggleman was back for the penultimate round and took the pole with GB, Slab and Hamilton in tow.  The Egg, looking for some good competition, lent out his setup which nearly all drivers deployed.

Tnadz was attempting to keep up with Egg when Zonta juked to the right and sent him into the wall.  The rest of his race would just be spinning off of the corners every few laps.

Buster was keeping Mark in sight when his rear end let go in spectacular fashion.

Darrel had an identical incident a lap later.

Webster was working the field and made a diving pass on Foresti where he didn't see Montiero and got clipped.

And he's in the fence!

About 7 laps in, Egg finally moved out ahead of traffic and was ready to track down Riggleman and Slab.

A lap later, his rear tires wiped out from under him also.

At least he took out Max Wilson.  Good man!

Slab was nearly taken out while chasing Mark but just managed to avoid the wreckage that was Tnadz's race.

The Bear could not be spared either as he was tip tapped about by Buster as the IKEA car pushed up the corner.

Riggleman had a heart stopper as Webster tried to make a hole and caught a chunk of Bear's fender.

That won't likely carry over into the next series.

While he made a good effort, Slab could only reel in a 2nd place finish.

Race 3:

With ballast only for Slab and Mark, many humans took to the front of the field for the final round of the series.

However, the Egg Setup Syndrome continued to plague the contenders as Hamilton was the first to go after a couple laps.

Egg himself succumbed only a few laps or so later.

As did Webster and another corner after that.

By this point, Riggleman and Slab had sliced through the field and were now stepping onto the podium.

Buster also slid out after hanging in longer than previous races.

Hamilton wasn't spared further insult as he was completely crushed by Pizzanio.

But there wasn't much else going on through the race.  With 5 to go, Riggleman had slowly run down Tnadz and passed for first.

Slab took another podium.

Tnadz fought with traffic and kept second place.

While Riggleman doubled his win count for the weekend.

In the end, it was a very close finish in the points.  Hamilton was behind The Bear by 37 points while Sandy just let Slab ahead by 4 points.  Gurton Buster fell from grace in the last two picks that killed his average and scored him 8th, 486 points out of first.  At the front, only 27 kept Max Wilson at bay as Tnadz scraped by as the Pot Luck Champion!

A great series by all.  Good picks and fun tracks.  Perhaps the next potluck series won't use PTA...

On now to a decidedly non-PTA physics series: The Camping British Truck Series.  Utilizing a mixed field of drivers from the Pickup Truck Racing series in Great Britain, this series will run on the standard Camping World Truck schedule.
