Pot Luck 17 - R46-48 Bristol Dirt

As the sun begins to set on the championship, there's not much between the top contenders and with Gut Slab's pick, things were shaken up even more with his three-race-pick at Bristol Dirt.  No cautions and after a practice session, no rules (except Twisted Metal Rules).

Race 1:
A returning Riggleman took the pole with his goober setup and Sandy Smith to his right.

Buster, who had struggled with a setup through practice, quickly found himself harpooned on pit road wall trying to avoid Tnadz.  He'd spend many a lap in the pits for repairs.  Good thing damage was moderate.

Gut Slab was tapping his strengths and sending opposition to the wall.

But his tactics weren't all without issue as he found himself up there occasionally.

The Bear was having a great race several laps in when he had a very low approach through the corner that sent him pushing hard into the outside wall.

That "slight" impact was enough to drop the engine out from under him for a disappointing DNF

Tnadz had a spin as well in a similar fashion as did Gut Slab who was knocked about a bit by Mark.  Amazingly, no one was killed and racing resumed without much issue.

Gurton Buster eventually made his way back to the track with significantly less car attached.

Darrel was finding himself on pit road as well several times after being knocked down low or tripping over his setup.

The Egg had a Bear run as he too lost an engine.  It looked like the car was dragging violently and simply destroyed the underside.

GB also killed his car early on in the same place as his first wreck.  Despite dying after the previous humans, he took an amazing last due to his laps down.  Very surprising no others were out before him.

Meanwhile, Gut Slab and Tnadz were running close and managing to keep off of each other for some good racing laps.

Just as Tnadz had a slight advantage, he was tripped up by Jimenez.

Who Slab knocked around not but a couple laps later, bringing the two humans back together for close racing.

After taking some battle scars throughout the race, Riggleman was starting to lose speed and the field was right on him.  Time for some defense.

Over halfway and Tnadz Launched Montiero into the wall.

While that isn't so interesting, the resulting "Big One" sure was.

The chain reaction either collected much of the field or caused lots of evasive action.  The biggest loser on this trade was Riggleman who fell back about twenty spots.

Then the Slab and Tnadz were right back to racing as they scraped the inside wall around the Big One.

And they didn't take long to track down Mark who was suffering more than ever and just trying to take it easy and finish.

Tnadz was the first to faulter and lose it on to pit road where he lost a couple laps running slow.

But coming back out there was some excitement as Khodair went spiraling through the air.  This was not of Slab's doing.

But this sort of was as one of the Cimed cars ran alongside the Red Bull ride and the shifted weight brought him around.

Unfortunately momentum carried high on the track and he was right in the mix.  But he actually avoided getting killed by running in reverse down the stretch and scaring the hell out of everyone else.  Well done.

In no time, he was back to getting vengeance.

That was bad news for Riggleman who rounded the corner and turned it hard into the wall.

Darrel nearly killed Mark's ruined car on his way by but just missed.

Suzuki was less graceful.  Riggleman's ride to victory was wrecked.

After some other wrecks that Slab became apart of, he made himself a massive roadblock.

And took several cars out.

And yet still more.  Impressive.

In the end, Darrel barely made it for a hard earned 30th while Tnadz lucked out for the last several laps and made it up to 11th.

Race 2:
Tnadz and Riggleman on the front row with Slab right behind for Race 2.  Laps lowered to 60 but damage still Moderate.

Buster and Egg were running some interesting lines early.

And as he was making strides into the field, he was dumped.

And not the only one as Egg was caught in the mess and rammed by Hamilton who couldn't move out of the way.

GB was going to be OK until The Bear was coming over from contact with Jimenez and rocketed the IKEA car into Egg.

Sending both cars straight over pit road wall.  How lucky for them.

Of course, there was a massive log jam on the front straight which wasn't helping anyone.

Tnadz had grained the lead but was caught up on a Salas salad and spun.

And after he was hit several times, Hamilton was there to hit him again.  Oh hey, there's Slab.

Who, even when facing backwards stopped managed to scare the AI so bad they started accordianing up on each other without really even hitting him.  Amazing.

With Gurton dead in the pits (sort of), Hamilton dead on the wall (definitely), Tnadz and Gut Slab resumed racing like in Race 1.

Mark, who was leading, was having a rough go trying to avoid the AI calamity.

That got him tossed up the track a little into traffic but without incident.  Notice Darrel is on the wall.  This is all happening within the same 10 seconds or so.

The Bear became a bouncy ball between Montiero and The Egg and got tossed.

Several laps later, Riggleman ran into trouble with one of the Cimed cars in his first true wreck of the race.  But he continued on.

Tnadz had worked back up to the top ten and was charging when he charged right into the back of the 80 who Mark had spun just earlier.

With a damaged ride he watched as Darrel (oh hey he's not dead) came slamming into the picture.

The battle for the lead was now on fire as Slab and Mark were roller jamming their way around the circuit.  Even Bear was making up spots and hoping for some points action.

Sadly for Egg, he was knocked into the wall by Guga Lima coming off the corner and was greatly damaged.

And part of a much larger wreck.

Which was just getting bigger like a cancerous mole.

At this point, Tnadz lost his engine and had to auger it into a Eurotrashfarma car for solace.

With Gut Slab losing the lead, he wasn't far behind and it was anyone's race.  Egg was having a good go of things and was up to the top 15.

And Slab continued striking fear into his competitors hoping to maybe get a strike on Riggleman.

But Riggleman was also striking back and not letting anything keep him from holding the lead.

Gut Slab was amused but not overly impressed.  He wanted that win.

Even Egg was starting to get in on the action with a nice pair through the corner.

As laps wound down, Slab and Riggleman were really fighting to move through the traffic with some very exciting passes and runs.

But tragedy struck when Slab and Guga Lima came together through turn two.

The damage was pretty severe and like a runaway fusion reaction, Slab dominoed several cars around him as his engine died.

And even when dead managed to catch a few more before being pulled from the racing surface.

Egg also had a run-in with Lima but managed to come out on the better end of the deal, though he sacrificed two spots to do so.  Worth it.

By the end, Riggleman held it together and took the win.

Race 3:
Final race and FRAGGA with the pole from nowhere.  With no damage, this was going to be an exciting race.  60 laps and go.

Within a lap or so, Tnadz and Slab got around Fragga and were back to their usual racing.  Back a few more spots, Sandy was running a really low line and generally bouncing off of AI.

That got him 4-wide on the wrong side of the action but he held it marvelously.

Although once he and Serra got together, it wasn't as good.

And after they untangled, Tnadz drifted hard and cut low at the last second to avoid wrecking the Dollar Tree car.

In the back, Darrel and Egg were easing into the race as they sent cars flying to the wall.

Overcoming his success ballast, Riggleman was deep in the fog of war when he jacked up Camilo into Barrichello.

Egg was having some trouble with the leftovers.

When Tnadz came on the scene, he tried to skirt to the outside of the 117 but didn't see Egg's 62 on the other side.

And even Slab got a bite.

Gurton Buster was doing well until the group he was in decided to swerve all over the track.

Back behind that, Bear was collecting Serra and the two had a moment.

Then he was joined by Riggleman and Tnadz although Mark didn't hang out.

Despite rolling around, he got going and formed a conga line.

But was immediately in trouble again.

Still only a few short laps in and Tnadz cased it on some spun cars.

And the pileup started.

At this point, and for a few more laps, Mark was laughing too hard to see what was going on.  Somehow, GB made it out the other side of this pile.

Slab was back to launching cars several feet in the air.

Just behind them, Buster and Darrel were trying to beat his Olympic records.

But Slab fought back.

Mark was the furthest human forward until he got hung up on Barrichello.

That's when Tnadz made the pass.

And was off looking for 1st.

At this point, Slab had resolved to take a different approach of just sitting down low on the track.  Dinner?

Egg and Tnadz seemed to have several moments throughout the race but for the most part kept off of each other.

That didn't stop Tnadz from mucking himself up though.

Further back and a little later, Darrel launched Tuka Rocha off into the wall.

From there, he started another cascade, catching The Egg.

And several more.

Sadly, he ended up on his roof but Slab was there for the rescue.

At one point, when Tnadz was racing by a spun Mark, his engine let go.  One of many to take engine damage throughout the race.  Buster actually had to retire after a critical hit that managed to kill his car leading to an unprecedented, third consecutive last place.

Egg didn't take long to get started with yet another pile up.  But this time he'd get some other human help.

Darrel thought it might be safer up on the wall and took another trip to the wrecker park.  He wasn't dead but he wasn't getting much racing done up there.

He almost immediately got himself turtled again and had to call another tow.

More laps went by and there was general zaniness.  That's when Darrel spun off the corner into some stopped cars.

The Bear was running right behind the 88 which he used as a cue ball and blasted both cars into the stratosphere.

Say hello to Starman while you're up there.

On the last lap, Tnadz beached it on the wall while others also had to settle for positions just outside of points.

But not Riggleman who went from the back to 2nd, losing out to Nunes.

With Scot out this week, his pick went to The Egg for next week.  His pick?  Original NR2K3 California.
